Enrichment Activities

We integrate a wide variety of extra-curricular activities including but not limited to yoga, culinary activities (Little Chefs), music and movement, gardening, carpentry and  French and Physical Education program.

Here is a glimpse into our enrichment programs with the children.

Yoga

Yoga with children is a gentle blend of simple poses and playful movements. They might stretch like trees in the wind, stand tall like mountains, or balance in a boat pose. These moments not only build strength, balance, and flexibility but also nurture a sense of calm and mindfulness in a joyful, natural way.

Little Chefs

Through hands-on food activities, children explore textures, practise skills like cutting, pouring, and mixing, and experience the joy of creating something to share. Along the way, they encounter early math through measuring and simple science as ingredients change from solid to liquid and back again. Cooking becomes a rich, multisensory experience that sparks curiosity, confidence, and coordination.

French

In our 30-minute French lessons with a native French-speaking teacher, children learn simple words and phrases through music, interactive games, puppets, and storytelling. These engaging activities spark lively participation and foster a love for the French language. Learning a language enhances communication skills, cognitive development, cultural awareness, and confidence while fostering curiosity.

Green-Fingers: Gardening

Our gardening program lets children explore the joys of gardening and discover where food comes from through a hands-on Garden-to-Table experience. As they plant, care for, and harvest their own crops, children develop a connection with nature and learn practical skills such as responsibility and patience. They also use their garden discoveries in creative ways, incorporating them into art and other activities. Through these experiences, children begin to understand kaitiakitanga, learning to care for and respect the environment, fostering thoughtfulness and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Physical Education

At Marshwood, children engage in physical education both indoors and at the local field, enjoying activities like obstacle courses and group games. These experiences support coordination, gross motor skills and confidence.
